(2009, 30 min, $5.00)

(This video is recut from the original combined with footage from Gladue Pre-Sentence Report)

The Gladue Decision looks at the landmark decision issued by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1999 saying judges must take the unique circumstances of Aboriginal people into account during sentencing. Considerable disagreement remains about the meaning of the decision and the manner in which it is to be applied. This video sheds light on the original intent of the court decision and the opportunities this important legal milestone represents as well as the work ahead that upholding it will require.
