Ongoing Research in Aboriginal Child Welfare

In Alberta and Saskatchewan, important research with First Nations communities investigated values and strategies that can make child welfare practice more meaningful and less harmful to Aboriginal people.  The Centre for Excellence in Child Welfare’s (CECW) work in Reconciliation in Aboriginal child welfare has continued this year.  It has developed curriculum for social work education and has submitted a proposal, in association with the Canadian Education Association, to develop curriculum. Members of the Consortium headed up research in the Prairies (CECW) and have taken a leadership role in professional training and working with First Nations to enhance their capacity to respond to child welfare issues.
